The office was the creation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and broke the mould for situation comedies.

The office was first broadcast on BBC2,July 9th 2001.What followed were two series and an two part christmas special that were to go down in history as one of the greatest television shows ever made.What made the The office different was its unique way of making the viewer feel uncomfortable and squirm while watching the hapless but loveable David Brent,who was played brilliantly by Ricky Gervais.Cast alongside Brent were the fantastic Gareth keenan (Mckenzie Crook),Tim Canterbury (Martin Freeman),Dawn Tinsley (Lucy Davis),Chris Finch (Ralph Ineson),to name but a few.The office has been such a global hit that it has been remade in the following versions- US,French,German and Canadian(Quebec).The office feature the now infamous David Brent dance that was a spur of the moment of genuis from Gervais that will probably haunt him for the rest of his life as a party piece that he will surely be forever asked to re-inact.Despite leaving the public desperate for more of classic Brent moments,Gervais and Merchant decicded from the start the The office was to be two series long only as to keep the series from going stale,although they did treat the fans to the aforemantioned two part christmas special that cleared up a few issues such as,Tim and Dawns romance blossoming and Brent standing up to the sexist Finchy when he meets a love interest.The office will go down as one of the,if not THE best shows ever to grace our television sets.
